Thoughts

It is impossible to put into words just how much I will miss Ray. I was 2 years old when Ray was born and we had a close bond throughout almost 70 years until his sad and sudden death. We had a close relationship as children, youths, young men, adults, through middle age and ultimately as pensioners. I know it seems improbable but I do not remember a single fight, arguement or substantial disagreement throughout the 70 years. Naturally our characters and strengths were not identical. Ray was a DIY genius,I was incompetent; Ray was a mechanical maestro, I was a muppet; Ray was the most useful practical man you could ever meet, I was a waste of space. However I was taller than Ray. When we move away from the practical aspects of life is where I became Ray's equal and,I think, kindred spirit. We had very similar interests, attitudes and senses of humour. We had hundreds, maybe thousands, of stories and joint recollections which were equally amusing to the two of us. We just had so much fun together over so many years. Family was hugely important to Ray. He had a fantastic marriage with Julia, two exceptional children in Karen and Paul, and his grandchildren have been his absolute pride and joy in recent years. Ray gave so much to family and friends and leaves behind so many people full of love and respect for him. I will miss Ray enormously, as will so many others, but am so grateful for the fun, joy and laughter he brought into my life. He is quite simply irreplaceable. Thank you Ray. Rest in peace. Much love, Bob

My love and thoughts to Karen, Paul, Julia and all the family at this incredible difficult time. Ray was ever present during my childhood and always so cheerful - I don’t think I ever saw him not grinning! Wishing everyone strength in the coming weeks and hope that you can take comfort in the wonderful tributes and memories. Lots of love to you all, Sarah x

It's been many years since I've seen Ray, but as a good friend of Paul I saw him often in my teenage years. What I remember most fondly about Ray is that he was always very welcoming whenever I went over to their house, greeting me with a friendly smile and a 'watcha!' He will be sadly missed and my thoughts are with Julia, Paul, Karen and the rest of the family at this sad time. Iain
